Lyophyllum luteogriseascens Clemenceau & Smith Cap 3-6cm across, obtuse to convex expanding to almost flat, with a margin inrolled at first; creamy white staining yellowish and finally grayish all over; moist, smooth, cracking when dry. Gills broadly adnate, subdistant; whitish staining orangish yellow then gray. Stem 20-40 x 10mm, club-shaped; creamy white, but staining like the gills and sooty brown when dried; smooth, but with a faint bloom at the top. Flesh pallid to yellowish bruising orangish. Odor distinctly resembling fresh green corn. Taste mild. Spores broadly fusoid, smooth, nonamyloid, 6-10.2 x 3.6-6ì. Deposit whitish. Habitat singly in hardwood mixed forests. Found in Michigan and New Jersey. Season, July. Edibility not known. Comment Note the distinctive way this mushroom bruises blackish. |
